Web3 communities in Africa were given the opportunity to experience empowering workshops funded by the Ethereum Foundation.
The Ethereum Foundation Ecosystem Support Program (EFESP) allocated a total of roughly $8.5M to support 98 projects, according to the foundation’s inaugural grants allocation report published on Aug. 30.
Out of these successful beneficiaries, 4 projects from the African region were selected to be rewarded in the $8.5M grants pool.
Here’s a list of the 4 African projects backed by the Ethereum Foundation in the second quarter of 2024:
1. muAccra
This workshop brought together 99 participants from across Africa, co-living in Accra, Ghana. It was a 2-week event from June 9th to June 22nd. Participants engaged in a week-long StarkNet hackathon, resulting in 20 projects and a prize pool of $27,000.
2. Code Africa Hackathon
With a focus on account abstraction, zero-knowledge proofs, and privacy, this hackathon facilitated technical discussions among developers, founders, and investors.
3. EthAccra
Hosted in Accra, this event included workshops across universities to spark interest in Ethereum. It ran from August 29th to 31st.
4. Web3 Lagos Conference
This upcoming event is a 3-day hybrid conference (with both physical and virtual meetups) from September 5th to 7th. It will feature discussions on Ethereum core protocol development, open-source contributions, hackathons, and workshop
