Since after the launch of the first bitcoin ATM in Nigeria, the number of bitcoin ATM in Africa and beyond have significantly increased. We have a total of more than 7,600 Bitcoin ATMs throughout the world.
According to the figures from Coin ATM Radar, a website for tracking the number of bitcoin ATM around the world. The data reads that around 1,200 new Bitcoin ATMs were installed in 2020.
In 2018, we had only 2000 bitcoin machines. Then in 2019, it was more than 6000 machines, that is over 4000 new machines, then in 2020 we saw additional 1200 new machines until now.
The data shows that United States, have 5,422 ATMs, and that’s over 70% of the global market share in the country. Canada have 721 (9.5%), the U.K. have 279 (3.7%) and Austria have 137 (1.8%). Nigeria has one in Africa.
Coming to Africa, South Africa has the highest number of Bitcoin ATM in seven locations including Cape Town (3), Johannesburg (1), Nelspruit (1) and Pretoria (2). We have a total of 14 Bitcoin ATM machines in Africa.

Let’s look at the details of each Bitcoin ATM at the different 14 locations in Africa extending to East, West and Southern Africa. We currently may not have any Bitcoin machine in Central Africa.
