EFCC Prosecutes Mr ‘Crime Alert’ For Fraud
A certain Olaniyan Gbenga Amos, founder of Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited has been charged to court by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for offences bordering on fraud.
Disclosed by a media outlet, Nairametrics.com, Olaniyan who is fondly known as Mr Crime Alert, obtained the sum of 35 million nairas under false pretence.
EFCC’s Zonal Command in Ibadan was quoted by the news blog as the source for the report. According to authorities at the Ibadan office, the prosecution had come on the heels of multiple arrest petitions written against Amos by the affected parties.
Based on the petitions, Amos defrauded them through his company, Detorrid Heritage Investments Nigeria Limited after luring them to invest funds in a scheme that promised 30% monthly returns.
The accused was tried at a Federal High Court based in Ibadan, Oyo State on a 35-count charge relating to conspiracy to defraud unsuspecting investors. A statement from the anti-graft agency reads:
“The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, October 18, 2021, arraigned one Olaniyan Gbenga Amos (aka Crime Alert) and his company, Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited before Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State on a 35-count charge bordering on conspiracy, operating business of other financial institutions and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of N35,000,000.00 (Thirty-Five Million Naira),”
Meanwhile, Amos pleaded ‘not guilty to the charges pressed against him. Following this, the presiding judge, Justice Agomoh adjourned the case until Tuesday, October 25 for a hearing of the bail application. The judge also directed that the accused be returned to custody.
