Mark Zuckerberg the CEO of Facebook, the largest social media platform discloses the company’s intentions to build a Decentralized ID system for users.
Facebook intends to utilize blockchain technology as an alternative for the popular in app integration —Facebook Connect for both users and developers. This will create an alternative to users and developers to utilize the decentralized technology to store users data and make it available only at users disposal.
In view of this Zuckerberg said “You basically take your information, you store it on some decentralized system and you have the choice of whether to log in on different places and you’re not going through an intermediary. There’s a lot of things that I think would be quite attractive about that,”.
“For developers, one of the things that is really troubling about working with our system, or Google’s system for that matter, or having to deliver services through Apple’s App Store, is that you don’t want to have an intermediary between serving the people who are using your service and you,” he continued.
facebook is pushing into blockchain technology, integrating different features towards wider adoption of decentralized technology. Many other notable improvements have been recorded by facebook towards blockchain technology since after setting up it’s blockchain department.
Notable among these features is the whatsapp cryptocurrency aimed at easier transfer of funds to friends and relatives. Other notable features is the incentives for publishers etc.
