After the official launch of the eNaira on Monday, October 25, 2021, the notice of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been drawn towards the illicit and illegal activities of some individuals and some fraudulent Twitter handle, @enaira_cbdc processed to belong to the Bank.
In an announcement signed by Osita Nwanisobi, Director, Corporate Communications of the CBN:
The fake handle and crooked persons have since been posting messages in relation to the eNaira with the hope of seducing inexperienced Nigerians with claims that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), among other fabrications, is giving out the sum of 50 Billion eNaira currency.
The fraudsters are looking to dupe innocent and unsuspecting members of the public through the links associated with their message for application to ovtain the eNaira wallets and become recipient of the said 50 billion eNaira currency.
To clear the doubt, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has started clearly that it is not the owner of that Twitter handle(@enaira_cbdc) and truly suspended its presence on Twitter following the ban on Twitter from the Federal Government.
However, the CBN is not disbursing eNaira currency to citizens. Hence, the members of the public are hereby warned to be wary of fraudsters who are out bleed them of their hard earn money.
Members of the public who are not exclusively educated about digital currencies should make sure they seek more knowledge and information about the eNaira by visiting the eNaira official website: www.enaira.gov.ng or calling the eNaira contact centre on 080069362472 or by visiting any CBN Branch close to them.
Only the official platforms should be interacted with when one is either curious or looking for more credible information has regards anything concerning the eNaira digital currency.
