Governor Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers State Creates New Ministry for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in the State.
Governor Ben Ayade announced the new ministry at Cross Rivers when he was swearing in the new thirty-nine commissioners of Cross Rivers State.
Asu Okang, the commissioner for information in Cross Rivers State speaking on why the Governor created the new ministry of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) in the state says;
“The governor in his wisdom refused to call it science and technology because it would be limiting the real essence and the intent of the creation of that ministry.”
“Artificial intelligence as a major issue is what the state is leveraging on, we have young people who are very innovative in our state who are doing a lot but are not seen. If you now call it science and technology, it will completely be a stereotype. So to run away from the stereotype of science and technology which is not delivering, we want to be specific in our mandate.”
Around october of this year, Data Science Nigeria (DSN) a non-governmental organisation in Nigeria revealed plans to raise 1,000,000 world-class AI talents in the next 10 years.
Moreso, the Deputy Senate President of Nigeria has encouraged the implementation of robotics, artificial intelligence and blockchain technology in the process of the governance. Citing it’s benefit in creating jobs and growing the economy of Nigeria.
Moreover, NDIC announced it’s collaboration with Korea and Taiwan to develop team of experts in Fintechs, Digital Technology and blockchain. The agency stressed the need for digital technology in solving some financial threats to our economy.
There is an increase in the adoption of artificial intelligence and blockchain in Nigeria aside other technologies of the fourth industrial revolution.
This calls for the establishment of blockchain schools for blockchain classes and tutorial with certification courses. And also the need to train new persons with blockchain skills and artificial intelligence skills for available jobs especially blockchain jobs in Nigeria.
