The artworks and a handwritten motivation has been minted and now sells as non-fungible tokens or NFTs by the London-based auction house, Bonhams.
A single image as an NFT, The Cell currently sells at a floor price of $850 with 44 editions. The Lighthouse with 30 Editions currently has no Floor Price but was auctioned at $700. The other nft images currently sells as follows:
The Church: This NFT image of the House of Mandela Art sells at a floor price of $999 with 29 editions
The Windows: This image sells at a floor price of $999 with 62 editions on Nifty.
The Harbour: This is the costliest collection of the NFT images. It has 26 editions with floor price at $15,0000.
Mandela’s Robben Island series – consisting of five artworks and a handwritten motivation completed in the early 2000s – will drop as NFTs on 9 March.

The sales was auctioned in partnership with Nelson Mandela’s eldest daughter, Makaziwe Mandela on Nifty Gateway.
Makaziwe Mandela has, according to Bonhams, approved and supported the minting of her father’s artwork as NFTs.
“I am extremely pleased to be partnering with Bonhams and Nifty Gateway to offer these exclusive NFTs of my father’s work,” said Makaziwe Mandela, in an announcement issued by Bonhams.
“NFTs are an exciting way to democratise art, and I’m delighted to share my father’s legacy in new forms.”
The five artworks on sales includes; The Cell, The Window, The Lighthouse, The Church, and the Harbour. These works depict scenes and areas of Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years in confinement.
