Wole Soyinka, an Iconic playwright and international literary critic did what he does best at the New Arts Theatre in University of Nigeria Nsukka where one of his plays was brought to life on stage. CHILDE INTERNATIONALE.
Lovers of Playwright and Arts were all gathered for the event which took place at exactly 22/05/2018 at the University Theatre. The event began at exactly 7:00pm and lasted for two hours. The performance was outstanding and the commentaries from the audience was welcoming.
The ticket for the event were only made available to those who paid for it. And was bought using the Nigerian fiat currency NAIRA(₦). Many of the audience paid using the countries fiat currency. We gathered that some other audience trying to get into the event were proposing to pay for the entrance ticket using the digital currency BTC. But the organisers of the event weren’t welcoming the event.
The said audience argued that they are being denied entrance into the event. But the organizers made them to understand that bitcoin isn’t accepted as a mode of payment for the drama review attendance.
This development shows that the Nigerian citizens are more or less embracing the digital money revolution. The Nigerian Government has not made any statement concerning the Cryptocurrency acceptance into the country. But rather the Central Bank of Nigeria has been issuing reports against the use of Cryptocurrency. Stating vividly that “Anybody making use of Cryptocurrency (bitcoin) is only doing so at his own risk and his own discretion “. Warning has been issued from the country’s financial institution concerning their zero support on Cryptocurrency Adoption.
