World Health Organization Launches MiPasa, a Blockchain Powered Platform to Fight COVID-19.
MiPasa Blockchain Platform.
Today, World Health Organization (WHO) joined hands with major blockchain and tech companies to create a distributed ledger technology (DLT) based platform for recording and sharing statistical data on the coronavirus pandemic.
The new DLT–based platform, MiPasa, is built on top of Hyperledger Fabric in partnership with technological companies like IBM, Oracle computers and blockchain platform Hacera together with Microsoft.
MiPasa helps in early detection of COVID-19 carriers and infection hotspots.
MiPasa privately shares information on COVID-19 between individuals, state authorities and health institutions through the use of advanced technological tools and a dedicated user app.

According to the MiPasa website, the platform makes up of a “multidisciplinary supergroup of health professionals, privacy experts, and software developers, backed by leading technology companies and commercial entities.”
“MiPasa can help monitor and foresee local and global epidemiological trends and detect likely asymptomatic carriers by feeding big data on infection routes and occurrences to powerful AI processors around the world.”
National health institutions contributing to the project include;
- United States of America.
- Europe
- Chinese Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
- China’s National Health Commission.
- Hong Kong Department of Health.
- Government of Canada.
Meanwhile, on March 25, it was reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Ministry of Community Development (MOCD) is utilizing DLT-based solutions for identity verification and the distribution of official documents.
In US, experts claim that blockchain technology can be used in sharing the economic stimulus package. Moreover, some others propose that US launch a DLT-based digital dollar.
We can recall that a chinese journalist had also used Ethereum blockchain to bypass censorship and publish an interview with a Wuhan-based working doctor on the coronavirus pandemic.
